Developmental activities like construction of a ring road for Mokokchung town, launching of Swachh Bharat Mission and proposal for approval of DPDB road connectivity in vital areas in Mokokchung were discussed at the monthly meeting of Mokokchung DPDB on Tuesday.
The meeting was presided by parliamentary secretary, industries and commerce and chairman DPDB, Amenba Yaden.
Construction of rung road would being from Tsuzapang (NH-2) to Inter-state Bus Terminus at Khensa village merging with Mokokchung – Mariani BRO road on northern side of Mokokchung town.
Seeking approval of the house for construction of about 10 km ring road from Tsusapang to ISBT at Khensa village, E.E. PWD (R &B) Imnumeren said that Mokokchung town was also steadily and gradually heading towards a situation prevailing in Kohima and Dimapur were the traffic congestion has become a normal activity.
He said the pinch of traffic congestion in the town has reached a saturation level during office hours and there was little room for further expansion/extension of the existing roads including the NH-2 which passes through the town. He therefore, sought the approval of the House to forward the proposal for the construction of the ring road urgently.
He said that if approved the proposal, it would not only ease the vehicular traffic in the town but it would also promote further expansion of the town and economic activities in the district. The house approved the agenda and decided to forward to the government.
Having completed all necessary arrangements including power and water supply at ISBT, DC and vice chairman, DPDB, Sushil Kumar Patel informed the house that all buses operation will be shifted to ISBT on July 13.
There would be hiccups for the bus operators and also for the commuters but it will immensely help ease traffic congestion in the town, he said.
Swachh Bharat Mission Brand Ambassador for Mokokchung and Mon districts, Ex-MLA Subongmeren briefed the DPDB members about the launching of the mission and its concept, visions and targets. Mokokchung district Committee Chairman, Bendangnukshi Longkumer also spoke at the meeting.
The House has also discussed and resolved to forward to the department concerned regarding construction of road connectivity between Longchem (Nokpu) to Tzurong valley under Mangkolemba sub division under NEC programme and from Chuchuyimlang to Yali via Salulamang-Longra-Yangpi.
