United Naga Tribes Association of Border Areas (UNTABA) has accused the Dimapur District administration in particular and the Government of Nagaland for failing to raise objection against its counterpart on border issues in spite of repeated reminders served to appropriate authorities including the home minister and chief minister on various occasion.
In a press release UNTABA president Hukavi T. Yeputhomi and general secretary Imsumongba Pongen claimed that Karbi Anglong and Diphu administration was establishing Disapur village inside the recognized Rilan village.
Condemning the act, it said such “high handedness” of the administrative authorities in the border areas from Assam side has not only caused numbers of precious lives but has led to innumerable conflicts between the people living in and around the border areas.
In the particular case of establishing the so called ‘Disapur’ village well inside Rilan village, UNTABA accused Dimapur District administration in particular and the Government of Nagaland has the main culprits.
UNTABA said that it has submitted the list of following illegal villages and settlements well inside the Daldali and Dhansiri Reserve Forests including: Nowgong, Notunbosti, Khukhribosti, Disapur, Doraibari, Jarunalla, Dikrongsa, Hosilik, Kuchunalla, and Choikilo(6 Mile) for immediate evictions. However, it said the matter has been kept aside by the administration for the “reason best known by them”.
UNTABA reiterated that such “illegal encroachment” of Naga lands by people of “questionable origins” was the most crucial issue that is confronting Naga people now. It said “strong corrective measures” was needed immediately so as to avoid adverse ramifications in the near future.
It then claimed that “such unabated encroachments by people of questionable origin” was happening all along the border between Assam and Nagaland covering almost all the 512 Kms belts bringing in thousands of illegal migrants. However, it accused the administrations of all the border districts of Nagaland of being in a “deep slumber”.
UNTABA said they neither have the sense of commitment in their given assignments nor are they aware of the consequences that will befall on the Naga people.
Therefore, UNTABA has forewarned the authorities concerned to take full responsibility on any eventuality that may arise in the border areas consequent upon the establishments of such illegal villages and settlements by the “people of questionable origins” with the tacit approval from the authorities in bordering administrations of Assam.
