
Parliamentary Secretary for Municipal Affairs and Economic & Statistics, R Tohanba held a meeting with staff of Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI), ward authorities and GBs of Mokokchung on Thursday.
While addressing the gathering, R Tohanba described Mokokchung town as a “clean and beautiful” town and added that this might be due to the hard work of the “sanitary workers and street cleaners”.
The parliamentary secretary also assured to look into the construction of the sweepers quarters on urgent basis and encouraged one and all to work harder and to remain a role model for dignity of labour.
R Tohanba stated that as per the charter of duties, department of municipal affairs was framing the municipal and town council rules, constituting the election commission, considering the conduct of municipal election (which has been withheld due to the 33% women reservation issue), financial reforms of the municipalities, transfer of powers and functions to the urban local bodies, master plans of minucipal and town councils, finance commission/state grants to urban local bodies and implementation of centrally sponsored scheme.
The parliamentary secretary asserted that the renovation and repair for the old and new town halls were under process and that the matter for the wastage dumping site would be taken up in the highest priority list. He also assured for a smaller trash vehicle carrier to ferry the wastages from narrower lanes, as requested by the all wards union.
