Nagaland chief minister T.R. Zeliang has responded to the public appeal by former NPF dissident leaders- G. Kaito Aye and Noke Wangna- to close the chapter over alleged money laundering made by them against him (T.R. Zeliang) and his wife, in lieu of their public apology and having withdrawn the FIR filed in Diphupar Police Station.
Zeliang in a communiqué issued through Sebastian Zumvu, press secretary to CM, maintained, that as a public leader, his avowed policy had always been to resolve disputes amicably in a spirit of “forgive and forget”.
Zeliang said he saw no reason as to why he shouldn’t forgive his two esteemed colleagues if both could prove their innocence for the allegation against him and his wife. The chief minister also said he has no problem with withdrawing his counter FIR filed at Diphupar Police Station on January 16, 2015. However, since he had already written to the RBI and the Enforcement Directorate to investigate the alleged money laundering, Zeliang said he has to wait for confirmation from the two statutory bodies before making any conclusion.
Zeliang also maintained that since he and his wife suffered “irreparable damage” in public esteem not only locally but also globally as the allegations went viral on social media, he was determined to “rectify the personal injury, though absolutely with no intention of recrimination against anyone in particular”.
The chief minister said he felt that such ridiculous and damaging allegations could be faced by anyone even including Kaito and Noke in future, both of them should clarify on the following:
The identity and details of “Mr. MohanMani”; 2. Where and when did they meet him; 3. Who handed over the “manufactured/doctored”Bank documents; 4. Who incited them to sign on the press statement that was published in the local papers; 5. Who circulated the signed press release and other forged documents to the media on January 15, 2015 and; 6. How did the same allegation re-appear in the national newspapers in the month of July, long after the FIR was withdrawn from Diphupar Police Station on April 22, 2015?.
The chief minister expressed the hope that the “unfortunate chapter” be closed at the earliest and that such “slanderous mischief” not befall anyone in future.
