Keeping its commitment made to the people to fight corruption, ACAUT Nagaland would be undertaking ‘Walk Against Corruption’ from Dimapur (Chumoukedima) to Kohima on October 30 and 31 culminating with a petition to be submitted to Nagaland Governor, PB Acharya at the Raj Bhavan, Kohima.
The event would also mark the 3rd anniversary of the October 31 public rally held at Dimapur in 2013. Informing this in a press release, ACAUT Nagaland media cell said that the ‘walk’ to Kohima would be undertaken by few ACAUT members along with committed well-wishers who strongly feel against corruption.
The walk would begin from Chumoukedima on October 30 with a halt at Piphema and on October 31, the participants would commence the walk to Kohima.
ACAUT has also invited individuals from Kohima willing to take part to gather at Kohima War Cemetery area for the final lap to Raj Bhavan. Further, details would be made known through print and social media, ACAUT media cell stated.
“Nagaland today is trapped in high corruption equilibrium and though the state Government is presented with evidences of pervasive corruption penetrating into every sphere of our daily lives, the inability or the unwillingness and the very casual attitude of the Government toward this malaise just goes to demonstrate how sick and pervasive corruption has become in the State of Nagaland”, the media cell said.
With such culture of corruption, ACAUT observed that only a moral revolution coupled with court rulings could root out this disease.
“If not, we as a people are surely headed for social anarchy and our aspirations of a prosperous and just society a distant dream only,” it added.
It also said another way to counter the culture of corruption was through mass awareness campaigns, like the series of backdoor appointments expose it had brought out.
“The courts will decide on the fate of the backdoor appointees and the authorities responsible for such is another aspect of the fight against corruption”, ACAUT stated.
