KSU, PSU support ENSF’s demand for roads

Konyak Students Union (KSU), in pursuance to its executive meeting resolution adopted on November 20, has endorsed support to Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) demand for transfer of 19 major roads to Border Road Organisation (BRO) from NPWD.
The union also resolved that road from Tang Junction to Aboi Town via Chen town be included in the ENSF’s demand.
In a press statement, KSU vice president Senpha Wangnao and assistant general secretary Hamshen Konyak expressed resentment on the rumors that existing Mon-Tobu road and Mon-Longwa road were to be handed over to the NPWD from BRO. It said if that happen then it would cause untold hardship in future.
KSU also stated that inter-state connectivity roads from Mon-Namtola (Assam) and Mon-Naginimora had been left unattended for more than decades while inter district road connection between Mon-Longleng either via Apao Junction and Zero point Dikhu road had never been attended, causing untold miseries to the people of the region.
Alleging manipulation on the improvement of Mon-Namtola road, the KSU said during Phase-I project 16 crores were sanctioned for improvement of this section but no changes initiated and instead degraded.
It pointed out, subsequent project Phase-II was allotted in 2013-2014 financial year amounting Rs. 46 crores for same road, out of which 10 crores released without any work done.
Therefore, KSU intervened and appealed the concern department to expedite the work with utmost efficiency but the government turned deaf ear to the union.
It demanded EE PWD(R&B) Mon to deliver justification in this regard within seven days from the date of publication, failing which the concern authority should be held responsible for any untoward course of action.
Further, KSU appealed chief minister of Nagaland to convene emergency consultative meeting as demanded by the ENSF in its representation before November 30, so as to expedite the demand.
The union directed its 10 subordinating units to be mentally prepared for any consequence that may arise owing to the “lukewarm attitude of the state government”.
PSU supports: Meanwhile the Phom Students’ Union (PSU) has also acknowledged the demand of ENSF for greater benefit of the people living within its jurisdiction.
In a press release, PSU president Hongkam D Ngonyen and general secretary Lunchem Phom said the workmanship and work quality of state PWD had always fallen short of the expectation across the eastern Nagaland since the task of road handed over from BRO to state PWD.
It stated that though road connectivity and maintenances was the only lifeline of Eastern Nagaland, most of the routes cut-off. However, state PWD failed to restore the damaged roads and added that due to poor road condition, patients of the region failed to reach hospital safely on time.
