Nagaland Medical Council (NMC) while appreciating the willingness of many organisations to conduct medical camps for the benefit of the rural people has expressed the need to monitor health care services to the people, as there was no proper evaluation in quality service.
In a release, NMC Kohima pointed out that public had already been informed through media the lists of all health service providers in the camp should be submitted to NMC before conducting such camps. It said WHO has standard lists of medicines to be prescribed in medical camps while Nagas easily misled by receiving free medicines in such camps, thereby encouraging quackery.
To this, NMC warned anyone violating the standard lists without qualified doctor’s prescription would be persecuted under Drug and Cosmetic Act.
It therefore, appealed to all organisations to co-operate with NMC for the interest of the health of Naga people. In Surgical Camps, NMC said, it was mandatory for the surgeon to stay at least two days after the operation to see and manage any post operative complications.
