Krishi Vigyan Kendra Wkha celebrates soil day

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Wokha under ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland celebrated “World Soil Day” on December 5, at its KVK conference hall with Deputy Commissioner (DC), Wokha, A. Robin Lotha as a chief guest. 
Speaking at programme, chief guest Lotha highlighted the importance of soils for food security, agriculture, livelihood and human welfare.
During the programme Robin Lotha distributed 102 of soil health cards to the farmers of 13 villages of the district.  He also upon the farmers to take up soil testing facility from KVK Wokha for nutrient and fertilizer management of their soils for better crop productivity.
He also shared his experiences about the soil degradation of Wokha district due to improper cultivation and nutrient management practices.
He further appraised the activities under taken by KVK for the development of agriculture in the district.
Meanwhile, Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) (soil science) KVK Wokha Dr. Sanjay Kumar Ray spoke on the significance of the day. He said that soil test based fertilizer application would enhance the agriculture production in the district. 
Altogether 100 famers and 11 officials from district agriculture, soil conservation, land resource department and KVK, Wokha attended the programme.
Earlier, welcome address was delivered by senior scientist & head, KVK, Wokha Dr. Santosh Kumar Baishya and vote of thanks proposed by SMS (horticulture) Megokhono Meyase.
