Training on participatory land use planning held

United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) and department of soil and water conservation Nagaland organized introductory training on the participatory land use planning (PLUP) at conference hall, De oriental grand Kohima on Monday.
Director and NPD (UNDP) department of soil and water conservation Nagaland, Peter K. Rengma in his welcome address said this training was necessary to involve with the line department and it would help in sustainable land development especially in the process of shifting Jhum cultivation in Nagaland. He stressed on the importance of involvement by different stakeholders like village council members, VBD and agri allied department to implement the programme successful. He said this training programme would improve the production level in the state for the framers.
Documentary specialist UNDP (international consultant) Dr. Andras Darabant who was the resource person said the purpose of the training was to provide high -level officials of agri and allied departments with an overview of participatory land use planning. He said the training would impart the understanding of the objectives, principles and the process of PLUP to enable the officials to provide guidance and support to subordinate staff and to judge the allocation of resources necessary to implement PLUP.
 Highlighting the objectives of training programme, he said it would familiarize with the definition and objectives of participatory land use planning, would learn key principles and process of PLUP and also to analyze the different land use scenario and facilitations of land use decisions.  
In the technical session, the resource person Dr. Andras spoke on concept of PLUP, principles of PLUP, process of PLUP, practice of PLUP, analysis of land use option for selected community and facilitation of land decision.
There was group discussion from the participants of various departments including fishery department, veterinary department, soil and water conservation department, sericulture, rural development and forestry department. Around 33 persons participated the training programme.
