
District level science seminar was held Monday, at District Education Office (DEO) Dimapur under the topic “Pulses for sustainable food security: prospect and challenges” where a total of seven students participated in the competition.
Speaking at the programme, Deputy District Education Officer (DDEO) Dimapur highlighted the importance of pulses. She mentioned that Pulses were important source of protein, high in fibre content and provides ample quantity of vitamins and minerals. “Pulses contain more protein than any other plant and thereby they served as a low cost protein to meet the needs of the large section of people”, she added.
She also mentioned that one should take care of the wastage of food by increasing the productivity. Amongla further encouraged the students to be confident.
At the competition the students were judged on the basis of the scientific content in presentation, fluency speech, ability to answer the question and novelty in use of visual.
The competition was adjudged by RMSA district coordinator and DEO Dimapur, Vitoho, Government High School (GHS) Burma camp G/T (science) Tripti Podder and GHS Dhansiripar G/T (science) Katila Aier were Kikasangla class- 10 student of St Stephen Higher secondary School and Hassan class- 10 student of Government High School (GHS) Lengrijan bagged the first and second position respectively.
The participating schools included MGM Higher Secondary School, Little Angel School, GHS Naga United, St Shephen Higher Secondary School, GHS Lengrijan, Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Dimapur and GHS Sarbura.
