Kohima Village Council (KVC) has expressed happiness over the selection of Kohima in the third list of the Smart City Mission (SCM) by the Centre on September 20.
In a press note, KVC chairman, Medoselhou Keretsü said Kohima villagers (Kewhimia), the ancestral land owners of Kohima town, had always been concerned about development of the town and wished for it to be developed soon in order let all Nagas live comfortably, with no traffic congestion, adequate and safe drinking water, 24×7 power supply, health care facilities etc.
KVC termed it (SCM) as a golden opportunity given by the Centre and at the same time lauded chief minister T.R. Zeliang for taking all strenuous effort with new vigour to make it a reality.
KVC also congratulated Municipal Affairs parliamentary secretary and department officials for their effort to make Kohima qualify for the smart city project despite facing disappointment twice.
Kohima Village Council has reiterated its commitment to extend fullest support to the department for any developmental programmes under SCM even in matters related to land acquisition.
Kohima Village Council said they were ready to cooperate with the department “to realize its goal that all works under smart city are carried out successfully without hindrance to make Kohima smart city a reality”.
Further, Kohima Village Council has urged the department to “judiciously utilize the funds meant for smart city development”, saying it would “not tolerate any form of corruption”.
Kohima Village Council also warned that the council would not tolerate anyone with ulterior motives that may try to sabotage the Smart city project.
