Acting on specific information regarding kidnapping of a Manipur bound truck driver by some miscreants and reportedly kept somewhere in New Secretariat area, personnel of Kohima police swung into action and rescued the victim.
In a press note by sr. superintendent of police, Joseph Hesso, IPS, the kidnappers were demanding a ransom of Rs. 10 lakh. The rescue team from North PS along with plain clothed policemen zeroed in on the kidnappers near Thizama and rescued the victim and in the process apprehended one of the three kidnappers while the other two managed to escape, the note informed.
The arrested kidnapper was identified as ‘SS. lieut.’ FGN, Kewepe Wetsah (30), s/o. Welonyi Wetsah, of Zapami village, Phek. A criminal case has been registered against the accused for conducting further investigation.
