
Advocacy Workshop on Tobacco Control for Dental Surgeons of Kohima District and Declaration of Tobacco Free Dental Clinics was held on November 24 at De-Oriental Grand Hotel, Kohima under the chairmanship of president Indian Dental Association NSB, Dr.P. Koza. This was informed through an official bulletin.
In the programme a talk on the “Role of Dental Surgeons in Tobacco Control” was delivered by state nodal officer NTCP, Jt. director, DHFW, Dr. H. Chishi.
Dr. Chishi said that the World Health has policies plan for every country and this policy package was given out by world health organization with a strong recommendation to carry out tobacco control worldwide namely, Frame work convention on Tobacco control (FCTC) adding India was amongst the first country to accept the FCTC 2003.
Initially dental surgeons were not trained but when the responsibility was given to them they took off very well, Dr. Chishi stated.
Additional director, DHFW, Dr. N. Savino declared 24 dental clinics as Tobacco Free in Kohima and asserted that every clinic should take the pledge.
DC Kohima, Rovilatuo Mor IAS said tobacco consumption was higher in NE India than other parts of India and urged the members to achieve the tobacco free target to bring a healthy society and a healthy city.
In this regard, stickers will be distributed to the public transport and during the Hornbill festival the student’s ambassadors from tobacco free schools will be campaigning for tobacco free Kohima, DC added.
