
Outgoing director of Horticulture department, Watienla Jamir was given a grand farewell by the department at Kohima on December 2 after having served the government for 35 years.
During the farewell speech, parliamentary secretary Kejong Chang appreciated the contributions of the outgoing director for skilfully guiding the department. He urged the incoming director and officers to emulate the qualities of the outgoing director so as to take the department to newer heights and wished the outgoing director a very happy retired life.
Outgoing director, Watienla Jamir said that she had a vision for the department as one of the highest revenue earning departments of the state. She urged the officers and staff to be sincere and concerted in their efforts to achieve the vision and to work unceasingly towards the welfare of the farming community. She wished her successor the best and expressed hope that under his leadership, the department would flourish.
Secretary Alan Gonmei said that the outgoing director was a very efficient and dedicated leader whose retirement would definitely leave a vacuum in the department. Highlighting some of the notable achievements of the outgoing director, he remarked that the massive development of floriculture in the state was due to her sincere efforts. She was also instrumental in bringing about a systematic computerisation and documentation of all the departmental records.
Short speeches were also delivered by other officers and well-wishers. Obangla Ozukum gave a special number and the programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. R.E. Lotha.
The programme was attended by a host of dignitaries including AHODs and HODs as well as members from the Kohima Watsu Mungdang. The programme was chaired by Pawan Kumar, incumbent director.
