In an unprecedented move, the state BJP unit has relieved three party functionaries from their respective posts/assignments in the party setup with immediate effect. The “office order”, signed by BJP unit general secretary (adm) Eduzu Theluo, which was made available to the media, stated that the State unit “as directed by the central leaders” has relieved BJP unit vice president K. James Vizo, v/p Mghato Achumi and spokesman Yanghose Sangtam.
Though no BJP party functionary wished to comment on the issue, the sacking of three senior leaders have been seen as a clear indication that all was not well within the state BJP unit.
There has been growing differences within the party whether to stay or not in the present NPF-led DAN alliance government. The issue started off after Mmhonlumo Kikon was unceremoniously sacked as parliamentary secretary, followed by state BJP’s memorandum to Governor, attacking its long time ally on charges of rampant corruption.
The step taken by BJP to attack its ally, wherein BJP also has three of its MLAs in the council of ministers, has not been taken too well by the NPF leadership. Of late, few senior NPF ministers had openly come out against the BJP on various issues.
