Highlighting the plight of teachers due to delay in payment of salaries since November last, Mokokchung Unit of Nagaland Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers Association (NSSATA) has said it was constrained to demand the release of four-month pending salary at the earliest.
NSSATA Mokokchung Unit in a press note by president Imodangba Longkumer expressed dismay over the State government’s failure to uphold its November, 2, 2016 promise to release the salaries on time and reminded that the association upheld its part of the bargain, called off the agitation and successfully concluded the year’s academic session.
Therefore, expressing loss of faith in the state government, the unit warned: “the SSA Teachers of Mokokchung, in our distress and frustration, have no option but to go for some drastic action in the weeks to come.”
While pointing out that the teachers were performing their duties despite non-payment of salaries, the unit maintained ‘there is a limit for everything’ and pondered how long they’d “bear this lackadaisical attitude of the state government towards us”.
“It is pertinent to understand that non-release of salaries to teachers can be termed as an act of indignation to the noble profession, which surely cannot be accepted in the eyes of men and God,” the unit stated in its appeal for release of pending salaries at the earliest.
Further, the unit warned it would have no option but to take drastic actions like boycotting of classes. Meanwhile, the unit in an emergency executive meeting on March 5 resolved to expedite the matter with the government till the end.
The executive meeting resolved to call for a general meeting on March 11 at Ongpangkong Salang from 10a.m to discuss matters relating to the association and the non-release of salaries by the state government.
Therefore, all the members have been informed to attend the meeting without fail; strict actions will be initiated against those who fail to attend the meeting, it stated.
