Deputy commissioner Kohima, Rajesh Soundararajan formally launched the District Level Jhum Resources Management Committee (JRMC) with the district officers on March 20 at DCs office chamber, Kohima.
According to DIPR report, the DC stated that the programme had been launched to create a platform for integrated land use planning and management, for sustainable management of jhum cultivation and its resources, for ecological and livelihood security through the integration and linkages of different stakeholders as ATMA, Agriculture and Allied Departments of KVKs, ICAR, SARs, universities etc., and to act as a technical advisory body in land use planning, resource management at district, block and village levels.
Briefing on the roles and responsibilities of the JRMC, DFO Kohima, Yhunsenlo Kent said that, the main objective of the committee was to promote crop diversification and building resilience for farmers and to provide a platform to share learning and experiences for an integrated approach of sustainable management on Jhum land and its resources.
