With the aim to ensure clean elections in the area, the committee on clean, free and fair election under 33 AC Suruhoto/Asuto, comprising various organisations, passed several resolutions during its tour to 29 villages under the AC from May 8 to 12.
According to a press note by Suruhoto Area VDB Association (SAVDBA), the resolutions were: The committee shall take over and exercise the entire process for holding common platform system in each village basing on their programmes and the meeting will be conducted by the committee. All intending candidates will provide free and sufficient time to explicit themselves before the public meeting to let the people read their efficiency and capabilities. This will be the fate of the candidate before casting vote.
Purchasing and selling of vote is strictly prohibited as per the constitutional and law of election commission, read the resolution.
Using alcohol and drugs during election was also prohibited.
The committee also resolved to disallow “election camp”. Opening of individual or political party camp is strictly banned as per committee resolution, it added.
The committee also abolished “coup” system, adding concern village should take action as per ECI provision.
The committee on clean, free and fair election comprise Kukami Hoho (GB); Sulimi Totimi Loka (STL); Students’ Union; Village Council Chairmen; VDB Association; Suruhoto Area Public Organisation; Church Leaders Fellowship (CLF) and village level sub-committee from each village including VC chairmen, GBs, village students’ union, member STL, church leaders and deacons and VDB secretaries.
