Nagaland chief minister, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu on Thursday categorically stated that the government would “not defend the case of MRK Pillai”, and instead would let the law to take its own course of action. Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the KMC office foundation laying stone programme, Dr. Liezietsu, admitted that he had no knowledge of Pillai’s activities and frankly asserted: “I cannot defend such cases.” He said if required, an inquiry may be initiated soon. Dr. Liezietsu further reiterated that the department had already terminated Pillai’s service.
To queries as to why Pillai had been retained for so long in the department even after his retirement, the CM said he did not have any knowledge of the happenings in the police department even though he was in the ministry when Pillai was re-appointed as Consultant.  When contacted, Home minister Y. Patton replied that he would discuss the matter upon arrival in Kohima as he was currently out of station.
