Normal banking operations were hit on Tuesday across the state as public sector bank employees in Nagaland joined the one-day nationwide strike to protest against the government’s proposed consolidation move, besides raising other demands.
Bank employees in Kohima also joined the nation-wide banks strike on Tuesday under the banner of National Confederation of Bank Employees (NCBE) Nagaland unit.
NCBE Nagaland general secretary, A. Lolly Moses informed that the strike under the aegis of UFBU was total in all the districts of the state.
In Dimapur, the bank employees staged a dharna at Supermarket area. SBI Staff Association deputy general secretary and UFBU, Nagaland co-convenor Ramesh Hashnu read out the 17-point demand during the dharna.
The nation-wide strike was called under the banner of United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), an umbrella body of nine unions comprising of All India Banks Employees’ Association, All India Bank Confederation of Bank Employees, National Confederation of Bank Employees, All India Bank Officers’ Association, Bank Employees Federation Of India, India National Bank Employees Federation, India National Bank Officers Congress, National Organization of Bank Workers and National Organization of Bank Officers.
UFBU said if their demands are not fulfilled the employee would hold a ‘morcha/dharna’ at Jantar Mantar New Delhi followed by procession to Parliament and two-day strike in October and November.
