Villagers of Thenyizumi including women society, youth organization and students union on Tuesday cleared the landslide between Chetheba and Chakhabama, which was completely cut off from the state capital on August 12.
It was reported that residents of Chetheba town, Thenyizu village, K. Basa, K. Bawe, Chesezu village, Chesezu Nasa, Phuyoba and some portions of Thipuzu village had been facing untold hardship for weeks after the heavy landslide at Keyurü near Sedzu River and heavy mudslide near old GREF camp (road connecting Chakhabama and Chetheba area).
Thenyizu village hired an excavator with the VDB fund and was able to clear the road with the help of the villagers. Thenyizu Village Council chairman, Zhothiyi Dawhuo said PWD officials also visited the affected areas. He also said that after the initiation of two land project, the village has had four major restoration works.
Further, Thenyizumi youth social welfare organization has urged the concern authorities to restore the highway at the earliest.
The villagers have been doing their best to restore the highway with little resources available from their end, a village elder said.
