
Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth around Rs. 50,92,830 seized by the excise mobile squad was destroyed at the office premises of directorate of excise and prohibition on Friday. The seizure was made during the period November 2016 to August 24, 2017, said superintendent of excise and prohibition (MS), Katoho Sumi.
Apart from this, banned drugs and cough syrup also seized by the mobile squad during the September 2015 to August 14, 2017 were also destroyed.
A total of 37,232 bottles of assorted liquor and 175 litres of local brew were destroyed. In this connection, a total of 497cases related to IMFL have been registered, Katoho said. He also informed that 8145 capsules and tablets of banned drugs and 235 bottles of cough syrup were destroyed.
In a brief destruction programme, commissioner of excise, Tarep Imchen said many people were not aware of the complex situation faced by the excise personnel while working under immense pressure. Despite of such circumstance the excise personnel were executing their assigned task diligently, he said.
Imchen also said that excise department is the third highest revenue generation department in the state. He said it was possible due to the commendable job done by the three wings of the department- Excise, Narcotic and Mobile Squad, in detecting liquor and drugs.
Earlier the programme was chaired by deputy commissioner of Excise (NC), Kevisetuo Angami, while god’s blessing was invoked by pastor Phom Baptist church, Burma camp Dimapur.
