Coming out strongly against the attack on a Naga family by a group of around five to six non-Naga youth on the night of September 21 at Chumukedima, several organisations have expressed serious concern on the safety of local populace and asked the state government to take necessary measures.
CNTC: Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has vehemently condemned the attack and demanded that a proper befitting action be taken by the authorities against those perpetrators. CNTC stated that the assault on the family by “these immigrants raises a very serious concern on the safety of our people in our own land.”
Questioning the state government onwhat steps it had taken till date on the issue of illegal immigrants even after so many crimes were committed by them, CNTC cautioned that in the event the things go out of hand, the state government would be held accountable. Describing illegal immigrant issue as “greatest danger awaiting the Nagas and our coming generations”, the CNTC alleged that the state government, however, still looked the other way.
At the present rate of influx, which has risen to an alarming level, CNTC said: “our coming generations has no future and will be wiped out completely by these immigrants.” Further, CNTC asserted that the crimes committed by “these people are danger signs and things to come in the coming days.”
CNTC also demanded that Inner Line Permit (ILP) be properly implemented in all the districts and proper mechanism be installed to monitor it, adding that Nagas cannot afford to remain passive over this issue any longer. It also appealed to every tribal hoho to come together on the issue “for the sake of our coming generations or we will have to bear their curse forever.”
Asserting that the patience of the people seemed to be running out, CNTC warned that if the government failed to address this issue at the earliest they would have to bear the responsibility of any eventuality. Further, CNTC expressed concern over the random issue of driving licenses, trade licenses, Aadhaar cards, vehicle permits and residential certificates by respective bodies to the outsiders without any thought of future consequences.
It also termed as “very questionable and highly condemnable” the purported recruitment of “these immigrants” by some NPGs into their fold, saying it has defiled the very essence and the spirit of the Naga movement.
CNTC further lamented that despite Centre’s directive to all states to deport illegal immigrants from their respective states and a red alert sounded over the Rohingya immigrants in the country, the state government was yet to take any preventive measures on its part to spread awareness. CNTC said it showed the “ineptness, lackadaisical attitude and carelessness of our elected representatives.”
TYOD: Tenyimi Youth Organization Dimapur (TYOD) in a condemnation note said that the attacked on a father and son by non-Nagas was a direct challenge to suppress the indigenous Nagas.
In this regard, TYOD president, Thejangulie Angami and general secretary, Khrozote Kapfo reminded the “illegal Bangladeshi immigrants” not to take advantage on the silent, soft spoken and the rich culture of Nagas hospitality as its weakness but acknowledged the generosity in accommodating them for peaceful co-existence. They claimed that illegal migration into Nagaland from neigbouring state has posed serious security threat to the identity of Naga people.
TYOD also said that deportation of illegal migrants have become difficult due to the lack of strong law and political will, as illegal migrants were employed as a vote bank by different political parties by indirectly selling own identity.
Therefore, TYOD called upon the Nagas to take stringent measures against illegal migrants, who have become a real threat to the security of the state.
Further, TYOD strongly warned that it will not remained a silent spectator and called upon all right thinking citizens to come forward and join hands in defending the rights of the Nagas.
TYOD also appealed to the landlords, the politicians, the government, leaders at grassroot level and all the Naga Political groups irrespective of factions to initiate necessary steps in unison.
AYO: Angami Youth Organization (AYO) said that the “despicable act perpetrated” by illegal immigrants was a wake call to the Nagas. In a condemnation note, AYO press secretary Zakie Khate wished speedy recovery to the victimized family at the “hands of these unspeakably abhorring aliens”. It also called upon all to initiate steps so that the issue was rightfully addressed and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured.
CYO: Chakhroma Youth Organization (CYO) has vehemently condemned the “barbaric act” and expressed resentment on the anti-social activity taking place in the society.
CYO president Neizelie Keditsu in a statement, warned that there was no room for such goons in the society, and that it would fight tooth and nail to uproot evil and anti-social elements. CYO also prayed for the speedy recovery of the unfortunate victim family.
It further urged the law enforcing agencies to book the culprit at the earliest and punished them according to the law of the land.
WSH: Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) has also condemned the incident where some non-Nagas “auto drivers of unknown origins” physically assaulted a father and son including his wife.
In this regard, WSH general secretary Vikato K. Achumi in a press statement demanded immediate arrest of those perpetrators and award maximum punishment as permissible by law. WSH also decided to extend full support on any action taken by Chumukedima Youth Organisation (CYO) and the law enforcing agencies on the issue.
It also reminded the government and Naga public that the incident was just one of many where in the past precious lives have been taken by “non-Nagas of unknown origin”.
Asserting that non-Nagas of “unknown origins” were involved in majority of criminal activities in Dimapur as per police records, the WSH urged individual and NGOs to stand up on this issue.
WSH also questioned state government’s silence, when the whole world, India and Myanmar are burning with the issue of Rohingyas.
Despite of this, WSH said state government has not implemented policy or direction by ignoring the fact that Nagaland is also under direct threat of a possible overwhelming influx of Rohingyas.
In this regard, WSH has served an ultimatum to the state government to bring down Inner Line Permit (ILP) check gate from Chumukedemi to New Field and Dillai check gate within one month.
Failure of the state government would be taken as approved by the government empowering NGOs and public to take appropriate step and for which WSH said it will direct Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) to enforce ILP within its jurisdiction. In the event of any unwarranted situation arises during implementation, WSH said that the government will be held solely responsible.
