Nagaland government has expressed strong reservation to the extension of “Notification declaring Nagaland a Disturbed Area”. In a letter signed by special secretary, S. R Saravanan, dated November 13, addressed to Union Home secretary, the state government expressed objection to any proposal for extension of “Notification declaring Nagaland a Disturbed Area”. It said that the state government has opposed it in the past and continues to do so.
The letter called attention to the fact that the overall situation in the state is largely peaceful compared to other states of the country with most of the underground factions at truce with the GoI, except the NSCN (K). “The joining of six Naga National Political Groups (NNPG) in the ongoing talks, on the ongoing Naga Political issue, support of the civil society organizations is a significant sign of peaceful atmosphere”.
Citing these circumstances the state government expressed their view that extension of the “Notification declaring Nagaland a Disturbed Area” was not necessary.
