Core Committee of the apex tribal hohos/bodies of Nagaland has asked Nagaland chief minister, T.R. Zeliang to revoke the November 24, 2016 resolution of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly pertaining to conduct of elections to the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and put to rest all contentious issues until such time the Municipal Act of Nagaland was thoroughly scrutinized, acceptably amended and formalized.
In a memorandum to the chief minister on behalf of Core Committee of the apex tribal hohos/bodies of Nagaland on Wednesday, Angami Public Organisation (APO) president, Dr Vilhusa Seleyi and Chakhesang Public Organisation president, Kekhwengulo Lea urged the government to honour the wishes of people and revoke the resolution in the backdrop of the ensuing season of peace.
The memorandum said a series of consultative meetings were held, the latest two being the tribal hohos meeting held on October 31, 2017 at the APO Hall, Kohima and on December 5, 2017 at Kisama, wherein the firm stance of the tribal people was continuously and consistently expressed every time.
It may be recalled that the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) on November 24, 2016 revoked a September 22, 2012 assembly resolution and passed the Nagaland Municipal (Third Amendment) Bill, 2016.
