Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (North) has been conducting activities for public as part of their civic action programme in different parts of the state.
Phek Battalion: Phek Battalion under the aegis of IGAR (North) organised a “national Integration tour” comprising of 30 elders from Thurutsuswumi village, Phek to Delhi from January 10 to January 21.
According to PRO HQ IGAR (North), Lt Col Amitabh Sharma, the tour was flagged off from Phek on January 10 by DC Phek. During the course of tour, participants visited various cultural and historical places in Delhi and met president of India, Ram Nath Kovind as well.
Meanwhile, the tour returned to Phek on January 24 after 11 days and received a warm welcome from the Assam Rifles and locals. A flag in ceremony was organised at Phek wherein elders shared their experience and recounted benefits of the tour. Commanding officer Phek battalion exhorted elders to share their knowledge and experience with the youth and to spread awareness about the importance of development and peace.
Phek battalion also conducted a lecture on HIV/AIDS and drug abuse at Phek on January 24. According to PRO HQ IGAR (North), the unit medical officer conducted the lecture on the topic of drug abuse and HIV/ AIDS with an aim to create awareness among the youth about the social evil and to save our young generation from its ill effects and make Nagaland a drug free state. The lecture was attended by 29 NCC cadets from Phek town.
Kohima Battalion: Kohima battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) organised a medical camp at Jotsoma village, Kohima on January 23.
According to Lt Col Amitabh Sharma PRO HQ IGAR (North), the aim of the medical camp was to provide free medical treatment and medicines to locals in remote areas. A medical team under medical officer, Captain G Sainath Ram examined the patients and free medicines were provided.
Kiphire Battalion: Kiphire Battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) conducted an inauguration ceremony for provision of water supply scheme (bore well) at Pungro, Kiphire on January 24.
According to PRO HQ IGAR (Norrth), Lt Col Amitabh Sharma, the aim of the project was to alleviate water related issues of local populace in remote areas and provide regular water supply.
The bore well was inaugurated and handed over to village council by Col. V Tiwari in presence of village elders and other civil dignitaries.
