Janata Dal (United) has served an ultimatum to the Wokha Village Council (WVC) against the latter’s resolution to support a certain candidate and bar any other from contesting the elections from their constituency. A press release from JD(U) secretary general and spokesperson, K. C Tyagi, and signed by Santosh Dubey, said that the WVC had adopted this resolution (resolution no. 17) on March 25, 2017.
This resolution had already attracted section 123 of the Representation of the People’s Act of 1953, it said. Also, the press release alleged that this resolution can be understood to have been passed with ill-intent thus attracting sections 131, 132, 133 and 135 of the same act and also section 171-D of the Indian Penal Code.
Citing these laws, JD(U) served the “very urgent” ultimatum to the WVC to immediately revoke the said resolution. It said that the party will leave no stone unturned to ensure free and fair elections including them knocking on the door of the Election Commission of India.
