The Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) has warned that it will depute its inspectors from time to time to check random throwing of wastes wherein defaulters if found shall be penalized up-to a maximum of Rs.2000 /- as per the Nagaland Municipal Act 2001.
KMC administrator, Kethosituo Sekhose in a press release stated that it had come to the notice of the council that waste materials including garbage were being thrown in areas not designated as collection points in the ward roads and highways, and this had been causing nuisance and pollution that may lead to spread of diseases.
Sekhose further said that there were cases where in-spite of signboards being put in place restricting throwing of wastes by wards, colonies and KMC, the same were not being adhered to.
KMC also warned that ward councils and ward sanitation committees shall also be held responsible if such random throwing of wastes is found within their respective jurisdictions.
