Referring to the graduands of Mount Mary College as “Assets of the society,” Minister of Higher & Technical Education, Temjen Imna Along Longkumer said it was time for them to shine and be part-takers in building society.
Speaking as a special invitee during the 5th Graduation Day for the class of 2015-2018, held at Nagaland Police Baptist Churches Association, Mission Compound, Chumukedima, here on Saturday, Longkumer called on the graduands to be confident, innovative, cautious all the while and hardworking in whichever profession or line of work they choose.
He congratulated them saying it was an auspicious day for them as they start afresh a new chapter in their lives where they were required to be more responsible contributing to society.
Longkumer urged them to be humble in their approach, work with diligence, seriousness and also live up to the expectations of their people, parents and the future generations which should pave the way for God’s blessings in the form of wisdom, knowledge, strength and the ability to serve others.
Heaping huge praise and appreciation for the parents of the graduands, Longkumer said they were contributing positively to society with the sweat of their brows and spending sleepless nights in their effort to give their children quality education.
He said parents were the main agents of growth for a nation and its
people.
Citing the amount of money spent for students by Nagas in other states, Longkumer said, in a year, Nagas were spending around 300 to 400 crore for education in Meghalaya, which otherwise, he said would have helped the state’s economy in a great deal.
He said Nagaland was equipped well enough in the field of education to meet the requirements of the student community.
On the line of politics, Longkumer said People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA), under the leadership of the chief minister Neiphiu Rio, was committed to bringing change to the state and that it was working with whatever little funds the state had to improve roads and infrastructure for education.
The programme was compered by assistant professor Viphirienuo Seyie while students’ chaplain Lipokchiten offered a prayer. College principal C Teeya Imsong brought the greetings.
A total of 102 students including 81 students in Arts stream and 21 students in Commerce stream were conferred their graduation degrees.
