
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday interacted directly with members of Self Help Groups under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission and beneficiaries of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gramin Kaushalya Yojna through video conferencing on July 12.
A press release by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kohima, senior scientist and head, Dr. V. Akashe Zhimomi stated that, the interaction provided an opportunity for the Prime Minister to get to know, directly from the Self Help Groups members, the various activities being undertaken by them under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission and how it has impacted their lives.
Modi said that women empowerment meant providing opportunities to women after realising and identifying their inherent talents.
The Prime Minister also said that such Self Help Groups were financially empowering women. Beneficiaries included Self Help Groups working on anti-alcohol movement from Bihar and brick making unit from Chhattisgarh.
A live telecast program of ‘Direct Samvad’ was also organised by KVK Longleng at Lingtak Village covering two villages including Hukphang village on July 12, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with beneficiaries of National Rural Livelihood Mission through video conference. Altogether, 14 SHGs were present in the program.
According to a press release from senior scientist and head, KVK Longleng, Dr. K L Meena, SHGs from different parts of the country directly interacted with the Prime Minister sharing their experiences and activities.
Rural women groups also heard about the activities of many other women groups from different parts of the country and they decided to work hard for the upliftment of the community as well their own livelihoods.
After the live telecast, a film show and lecture on livelihood improvement through mushroom cultivation was delivered by SMS (Horticulture), Dr. Roshan. Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) programs were explained by PA (H/S), Thungchano S Ezung PA (H/S). The program ended with vote of thanks by SRF, Namei A.
