Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) has resolved to pursue its demand for amending the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2001.
Addressing media persons at Western Chakhesang Hoho building Thursday, JCC acting convener Vekhosayi Nyekha said the committee’s demand for amendment of the Act still stood and that it would continue to pressurise the State government till it was amended as desired by the people.
JCC was formed to oppose holding of urban local body polls with 33% reservation for women. Nyekha was elected as acting convener at the JCC core committee meeting on Wednesday after its convener Supu Jamir voluntarily resigned. Nyekha also reiterated that it was not opposed to women leadership, but was against the reservation system.
Meanwhile, Nyekha, who is also the convener of Public Action Committee (PAC) of Naga Council Dimapur, reaffirmed the public resolution of “one tax, one government” and to restrict all forms of taxation.
Reiterating its earlier appeal for unity of all NPGs under one umbrella to pave the way for an early solution of the prolonged Naga political issue, PAC also demanded that the government of India should hammer out a political solution at the earliest.
In this regard, PAC has called a meeting with tribal hohos, DCCI, DUCCF, GBs union and Naga Women Hoho Dimapur on August 18 at Tourist Lodge for taking suggestions from these bodies on the issue.
