There were major landslides on NH-29 between Kiruphema and Kohima in the last few weeks due to the incessant rains and the movement of the vehicles was completely cut off near old KMC dumping area, causing untold miseries to travellers.

For months, vehicles have been diverted from Kiruphema village towards Tsisema village to reach Kohima, which is the only alternative road connecting the state capital and Manipur at present.

Kiruphema Youth Organisation (KYO) on Monday, again performed road repairing works to widen the narrow portions of the by-pass road between Peducha and Kiruphe Bawe/Basa.

Even village children joined the volunteers, and they were seen with spades and hoes helping out their elders. The present condition of the road can no longer bear the heavy traffic and may pose grave dangers to some vehicles in the hilly terrain.

A driver who joined the social work said, “Some people are working for reconstruction of roads for smooth functioning but many responsible educated youth keep on barking in social media.” He also urged citizens to take action in road restorations as Nagaland was facing a crisis situation this year due to incessant rains.
