On the concluding day of the week-long “Hindi week” ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema, Nagaland felicitated Padmashri Piyongtemjen Jamir, director, Rastra Bhasa Hindi Teaching Institute, Dimapur who graced the program as chief guest on September 22.

A press release from ICAR-NRC on Mithun director, Dr. Abhijit Mitra stated that a plaque was presented to Jamir for being conferred with Padma shri award 2018 in the field of literature and education, for his outstanding contribution in the popularization of Hindi in Nagaland.

Speaking on the occasion, Padmashri Jamir said that in spite of being the National language, Hindi was not being adopted well throughout the country and most of the textbooks in higher education like Medicine and Engineering were not in Hindi. During the last week, various competitive programmes like essay writing, Hindi reading, extempore, antakshari competition, and dictation were organized.

Guest of honour, Walen Jamir emphasized upon the importance of Hindi in holding all the states, religion and tribes together. Special guest of the function Khrutsulu Dozo and Dr. Abhijit Mitra motivated the audience to use Hindi.

The event was organized by the in-charge Hindi Cell, Dr. Saroj Toppo, and vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. M. H. Khan, principal scientist, ICAR-NRC on Mithun.
