In light of some alleged rumours that the Tsieramia Youth Organization (TYO) was obstructing construction of the bridge at Sanuorü, the organization has issued a clarification on the matter.

TYO president Neirükuolie Yhome and general secretary, Vitshu Vizo, in a press release clarified that neither the TYO nor the Tsieramia council or the land owners had ever obstructed or prevented the contractor from starting construction of the bridge.

It stated that when the tender for the bridge was floated, some youth of their community, in their own individual capacity, requested for the contract. This was denied because they lacked the requisite qualifications.

They then informed the chief engineer of PWD (R&B) that they had no objections to a qualified contractor being allocated the work but they asked for the contractor to start work at the earliest in accordance with the specifications given and finish the work within the stipulated time.

Accordingly, the work was allocated to a contractor on July 2016. According to TYO, two years since the work order has been issued, work has barely begun. It further said that it had learnt that the government was planning to build a steel bridge instead of building it as per the specifications given in the July 2016 work order. “The bridge has to be constructed according to the specified criteria and the TYO will not allow any alterations to the work order issued in July 2016” the organization asserted.

Offering their full cooperation otherwise, they appealed to the government and contractor to start work at the earliest as the bridge was urgently needed in view of the difficulties being faced by the public due to damage of the road.
