
A one-day training program on organic farming for organic farmers of Hakhizhe cluster was conducted by the office of Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer (SDAO) on October 13, under mission organic value chain development for North Eastern region.
A press release from SDAO stated that the program was chaired by SDAO Niuland L Kivika Chophi where he highlighted the harmful effects of agro chemicals such as insecticides/pesticides and weedicides on the environment, soil and human health.
He gave various reasons why organic cultivation was prudent and wise. He also highlighted the status and scope of organic farming in Nagaland.
The objectives of mission organic value chain development for North Eastern region scheme was also explained to the organic farmers.
In the technical session, agriculture inspector Imkongyanger spoke on the principles and the processes of organic certification under various standards.
He also highlighted the packages and practices of organic turmeric cultivation with emphasis on varietal selection, insect, pest, disease and nutrient management under organic turmeric cultivation.
During the interactive session, many queries were raised by the farmers which were clarified by the resource person.
Later, vote of thanks was proposed by agriculture filed assistant Shekheto which was followed by distribution of folders and pamphlets to the participants.
A total of 50 registered organic farmers from Hakhizhe cluster attended the training program.
