Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) conducted various activities across the state to assist the farmers on the latest farming methods, knowledge and technology.
Following are the reports conducted by ATMA blocks.
Aboi block: ATMA Mon, Aboi block conducted training programme on “package and practices of onion” at Aopao village on October 22.
A press release from ATMA Mon stated that, resource person BTM Mhachamo Ngullie shared on land preparation for transplanting of onion seedlings and the care and management of the crop upto the harvest period. Demonstration was also done on preparation of nursery bed to raise onion seedlings for transplanting in the field. The importance of proper care at nursery level for a good quality produce was stressed upon.
Altogether 21 farmers attended and benefitted from the programme. Onion seeds were distributed to the farmers.
Tuensang Longkhim block: ATMA Tuensang Longkhim block inaugurated two farm schools on October 17 and 18, at Longkhim Village and Phir Ahir respectively.
A press release from ATMA Tuensang Longkhim block BTM Soyimrenla stated that at Longkhim village cardamom farm school was inaugurated where Thridila was appointed as the farm school teacher. BTM Arenla inaugurated the farm school and highlighted on the importance and role of a farm teacher. BTT member Hopise spoke on proper cultivation techniques of cardamom.
Another, farm school on ginger was inaugurated at Phir Ahir village. ATM Odilemla imparted the knowledge on the use and importance of ginger farming.
Toshiba was appointed as the farm school teacher. He also shared his experiences as a Progressive ginger cultivator.
Altogether, 32 farmers and three ATMA functionaries attended the inaugural programme.
KVK (ICAR) &ATMA Kiphire Khonsa block: KVK (ICAR) &ATMA Kiphire Khonsa block jointly conducted training programme on bee keeping and mushroom cultivation on October 19- 21 at Mimi village and Khongjiri Village and Penkim village.
A press release by, KVK (ICAR) andATMA Kiphire Khonsa block stated that the programme was chaired by BTM Khonsa block Jess T. Murry and attended by 40 farmers.
Resource person for the training was Benjongtoshi and Takutoshi Jamir where they emphasised on the importance on starting a housed hold income and talked about the steps involved for bee keeping, mushroom which can be practiced with ease by the farmers.
Chunlikha block: ATMA Chunlikha block inaugurated coffee farm school on September 21 at Nsunyu village.
A brief introduction of the farm was delivered by the farm school teacher. Special guest SDAO and BTT convenor Tseminyu, Viwheto Thorie gave a brief summary of global awareness on coffee.
He said that coffee is the second largest commodities after petroleum thereby generate employment opportunity.
He also said that Nagaland is in the 8th position in coffee production in India and has already linked with South Africa in exporting coffee. A total of 11 farmers attended the programme.
