Assam Rifles civic action activity reports from across Nagaland

Assam Rifles, the oldest of paramilitary force of India, has been conducting various activities for the local population to help it become more capable, learn about diseases and to improve military and civil relations. Following are some reports of their activities.

Mokokchung Battalion organises lectures: Mokokchung Battalion of Assam Rifles on October 3 conducted a lecture on HIV & AIDS for residents of Longtho Village.

A press release by Assam Rifles stated that the participants were briefed about the various ways in which drug abuse has led to HIV & AIDS transmission and the initiative and schemes undertaken by National Aids Control Organization (NACO) to control and eradicate HIV & AIDS from society. 

Earlier in a separate program on September 29, Mokokchung Battalion organised a lecture-&-awareness program for ex-servicemen of the area on the occasion of World Heart Day, in Tuli. 

The release stated that the lecture emphasized on the importance of a healthy heart and the requirement of adopting a healthy diet regime and regular exercises and abstinence so as to prevent heart diseases.

AR Jalukie National Integration Tour: Jalukie Assam Rifles Battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) organised a National integration Tour from October 3-16 for 18 students and two teachers from schools of Jalukie and neighbouring areas of Peren district.

A release by AR stated that during the flagging in ceremony organized at Battalion Headquarter on October 17, the students were encouraged to utilize the experience gained during the visit and imbibe the positive values of people from different states of India.

28 Assam Rifles free medical camp: A free medical camp was conducted for Seluku village and Chukitong area under Wokha district on October 4 by Wokha battalion of 28 Assam Rifles under the theme “Stay Fit, stay Healthy” which was aimed at the benefit of the rural populace who have no easy access to better health care facilities.

According to a DIPR report, the battalion commander later interacted with the GBs of Chukitong area who shared social issues and problems faced by the villagers. The Commandant assured them of Security Forces assistance for the betterment of people in the area. He also gave away tokens to the GBs and pamphlets of Sainik School to the public.

People of the area expressed gratitude to the commandant 28 Assam Rifles, Col Herin Borah for organizing the medical camp. The commandant of 28 AR Wokha regimental medical officer, Captain Satya Prakash and Post 2 i/c sub Mathura Dutt attended the free medical camp. Around 210 patients availed free medical check-up and treatment.

AR Tuensang education tour: Tuensang Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) on October 12 flagged off an educational and motivational tour for 15 students and two teachers from Tuensang District.

A press release by AR stated that the tour, being conducted as part of the Assam Rifles initiative towards fostering the spirit of National Integration, was flagged off by brigadier S K Sheoran, SM, deputy inspector general, 7 sector Assam Rifles.

Assam Rifles Dimapur conducts plantation drive: Dimapur Assam Rifles Battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) conducted a plantation drive for Clean & Green Nagaland at Huzukhe village on October 12.

An Assam Rifles press release stated that the aim of the plantation drive was to spread awareness among the villagers about maintaining a clean and green environment. The villagers took a pledge to keep their surroundings clean and plant more so that the future generations may reap the benefits of their efforts. The villagers and troops planted trees together as a symbolic gesture. 22 villagers & GBs were part of the event.

AR skill development lecture in Phugoboto: Tseminyu post of 28th Assam Rifles conducted “Lecture on skill development” on the theme of “Skill Development” at Phugoboto Mission English School, Phugoboto on October 13. A total of eight teachers, 40 students and 10 civilians attended the lecture program.

Assam Rifles, in a press release stated that during the lecture, details of various schemes and employment avenues for the young generation were discussed and shared for general awareness of the students and the local people.
