Nagaland Foothill Road Construction Committee (NFHRCC) has served a 14-day ultimatum to contractor M/s L Pukhato Shohe & Sons to resume the Doyang bridge construction work immediately and has also threatened to initiate appropriate action, if the contractor fails to do so.
This followed a joint inspection of the bridge construction site at Liphanyan village under Bhandari sub-division in Wokha district on November 3, 2018 by members of NFHRCC, Dimapur-based tribal hohos and local area civic bodies.
The joint inspection team expressed deep resentment at the contractor’s failure to send anyone to the meeting held thereafter despite repeated reminders. It stated that though some signs of activities like restoration of machineries and movements of labourers were noticed at the site, M/s L Pukhato Shohe & Sons’ management neither bothered to attend the meeting nor send any of its representatives to express its position on not being able to expedite the work despite written assurances given to NFHRCC on September 1, 2018 and chief minister Neiphiu Rio on September 21, 2018.
The joint inspection team viewed the contractor’s conduct as an insult to the hohos and the NFHRCC.
Further, after a prolonged deliberation, the organisations also resolved to remind the chief minister and the State government to issue work orders for the remaining 8-km uncut portion in Niuland and Naganimora sectors within this month, so as to fulfil the people’s aspirations.
It was also decided that any clarification regarding the Naga survival road project will be available to the public 24×7 at NFHRCC base office located at ASTD office complex, Kher Mahal, Dimapur. This was stated in a press release issued by NFHRCC convener Supu Jamir, general secretary W. Lemba Chang and assistant general secretary W. Chenithung Humtsoe.
