Departments, CIHSR mark WDD

Department of Health & Family Welfare (DH&FW), in coordination with the Horticulture department, organized a screening camp on “World Diabetes Day” (WDD) under the theme “the family and diabetes” on November 14 at directorate of Horticulture.

A press release by DH&FW Kohima stated that the Project 72 Hrs, “Run Kohima” — a joint initiative on raising awareness on non-communicable diseases, was also launched during the program. Team leader Project 72 Hrs, Sievituo Solo highlighted the objective of reaching out to the community through an initiative for healthy lifestyle practices.

The resource person for the program was Dr. S. Neiphrezo, diabetologist, NHAK, who stressed on important measures to understanding the condition, and to control and prevent diabetes. He also encouraged people with diabetes to go for regular checkups.

Officers and staff of the directorates of Horticulture, Land Resources Development and Water Resource (a total of 40 healthy office goers) were screened for blood sugar, blood pressure and body mass index.

The program was chaired by Jerry Patton, deputy director of Horticulture and significance of the day explained given by Dr. W. Nchumbemo Ezung, joint director, DH&FW.

CIHSR observes WDD: Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) observed World Diabetes Day under the theme, “The family and diabetes” on November 14.

A press release from CIHSR college of nursing, associate professor, Lalthanzami stated that Dr. Mego Meru, head of Medicine addressed the gathering and spoke about the influence that diabetes has on the whole family. Dr. Mego also emphasized the responsibility of the entire family in caring for diabetic patients. The nursing students screened more than 400 people for diabetes, free of cost and spread health awareness on diabetes in the hospital and among the community.
