Wokha dist declared organic tea zone

Wokha district has been declared as organic tea zone and to mark the day, Wokha District Small Tea Growers Association (WDSTGA) organized a programme at LTC hall, Wokha on Tuesday. 

District Agriculture Officer Wokha, Santsu Kithan, thanked the association for their untiring contribution in making the district an organic tea zone. 
He encouraged the tea growers to desist from using chemicals, pesticides and insecticides, and emphasized on free plastic zone. 
He also promised to extend help from the government like imparting training and seminars through ATMA.  
Hundreds of enthusiast tea growers participated in the programme. 
Meanwhile, WDSTGA has reaffirmed to its earlier resolution that no tea growers in the district will be allowed to use any kind of chemical inside or outside the farm. 
It also prohibited application of manure and salt in the farm and application of insecticides and pesticides on tea leaves. 
The association will also ensure that tea growers maintain their farm a plastic free zone. 
Further, WDSTGA cautioned that stringent action will be initiated against any growers found violating the above precautionary measures which will even led to cancellation of his/her registration and any business opportunity will be ceased.
Earlier, in the programme, associate pastor WTBC, Rev. Abemo Jungio invoked God’s blessing while welcome address was delivered by WDSTGA vice president, Shanpanthung Ngullie. 
Demonstration on making organic tea was given by WDSTGA joint secretary, P. Renpomo Lotha and the affirmation of its resolution was read out by WDSTGA general secretary, H. Orenpomo Ngullie. 
The programme was chaired WDSTGA president, R. Mhabemo Lotha, and benediction Longla Baptist church pastor, Wobemo Kikon.
