While welcoming the State cabinet’s decision to oppose and reject the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has, however, termed it as “too little and too late”.

In a press note, NPCC president K Therie asked what would be the method of withdrawal of support to the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), after having voted for it in Parliament and then repeatedly reiterating that the PDA government did not oppose it. “It appears they have failed to do their homework,” the party added.
According to the NPCC, such a “flip-flop stand” of the PDA government had clearly exhibited that it could not be trusted with the people’s future and that “it would not be beyond them to have changed their stand through mere lip service while pursuing to please their BJP-driven agenda”.
NPCC said, if the PDA government was sincere and committed in its stand to oppose and reject the Bill, then it should disassociate from BJP, while asking it to own moral responsibility for the “costly mistake and take appropriate action as is deemed fit and proper”.
