Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Zunheboto, Nagaland University (NU) conducted its 10th Scientific Advisory Committee meeting on February 12 at conference hall, Nagaland University Lumami under the chairmanship of vice chancellor, NU, professor P. Lal.
The meeting was attended by director ATARI, Zone – VII, Dr. Bidyut C. Deka as the special guest along with dean in-charge, professor & head Plant Pathology, Dr. Daiho, assistant professor Agri statistics, Dr. Sahu, dean RDC, professor B. Kilangla Jamir, HoDs and representatives of Agri & Allied departments of Zunheboto, PD ATMA, farmers, and others.
A press release from KVK Zunheboto NU stated that the special guest, Dr. Bidyut C. Deka, appealed to SAC members to come up with a concrete plan about the specific needs of farmers of each block and a road map to address their issues. He emphasized on the need for convergence among departments so that farmers get their due benefits.
PD, LRD also encouraged farmers to try coffee plantation. Vice Chancellor NU, Prof. P. Lal, in his concluding remarks, spoke about various measures which were needed to make farmers aware of new technology and their adoption so that they could get better yields. HoD Horticulture emphasized on developing a vegetable village in the district.
The house discussed various problems faced by the farming community and measures to be taken to resolve their issues. HoDs of Agri & Allied as well as PD ATMA decided to hold a progressive farmer meeting along with the KVK, where progressive farmers of each block will participate to discuss measures to improve productivity of crops and animals.
A welcome speech was delivered by professor & head, Plant Pathology, SASRD Nagaland University, Dr. Daiho, sr. scientist & head, Dr. Rakesh Kr. Chaurasia, presented the annual progress report of 2018-19 followed by presentation of annual action plan by ACTO (Horticulture), Edenly Chishi.
A vote of thanks was pronounced by ACTO (Agronomy), Dr. Visakho Shunyu.
