A white supremacist terrorist filled with hatred against immigrants especially Muslims who he saw as “invaders” flooding the western countries, meandered his way into a Mosque in Christchurch New Zealand where he cold bloodedly murdered 49 innocent worshippers who were worshipping inside. The terrorist, identified as 28-year old Australian Brenton Harrison Tarran wearing a helmet and armed with an automatic rifle, magazines full and a small cache of firearms navigated his way to the calm Christchurch streets toward Al Noor Mosque. The killer filmed the horrific killings with a video camera attached with his helmet. In the video, the attacker parks his car next to the mosque and gets out of the vehicle with a rifle. Once inside, he unleashed a furious automatic weapons fire cold bloodedly killing 41 worshippers instantly. He slowly goes to the boot of his car and retrieves another firearm. He then walks into the compound of the mosque and fires at a person standing near the doorway before dropping the rifle and shooting repeatedly with the second weapon as he moves inside. The gunman fires dozens of bullets at people trying to run away or lying down in huddled groups in corners of the rooms. Seven others were killed in another mosque three miles away and another victim died at a hospital in the rampage that lasted several minutes. Many of the victims hailed from around the world. Some were from Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Malaysia. At least two Jordanian citizens were killed and five others wounded in the shootings. In the aftermath of the horrific terror bloodbath, information about the terrorist revealed that he was a right wing extremist who had pre-planned the massacre. The motive behind the terrorist massacre was believed to have been motivated by several factors such as extreme right ideology, dislike of immigrants and also a need to prove a sense of purpose. Also it was noted that Tarrant lived in a neighbourhood where racism was rife. The overflow of immigrants from the Muslim community has made many in the western countries hostile to them. In addition, the rise of Islamic fundamentalism in the west and violence unleashed on the whites has led to sharp rise in right wing extremism in the west. Some 30 million Muslims live in the 28 Member States of the European Union. The vast majority of these Muslims came seeking work and they were needed as they worked in sectors usually referred to as “difficult, dirty and dangerous”. The mushrooming of Muslims and their aggressive acts and also influence in western society has raised serious concerns. The terrorist attacks by groups of Islamist fanatics and the radicalisation of “thousands” of native Muslim Europeans added fuel to the surging anti-Muslim sentiment in Europe. However, the hate agenda among white supremacists against other non-whites and today, Muslims, does not justify acts of terror. Politicians in the west under the guise of liberalism have ignored such concerns for the sake of vote bank politics, somewhat similar with the syndrome in India, particularly north east region. Such concerns have to be addressed through democratic and civilised means and certainly not acts of terror. In fact, terrorism has no religion nor race but is a dreaded virus that can destroy civilised societies.
