Programs on nature conservation in Zunheboto

Awareness campaign programs on protection and conservation of nature, forest and wildlife was organised by the Forest department, Nagaland at Aizuto on March 14, Lizutomi on March 15, Sukhai and Chishilimi villages on March 16. The programs were aimed at reaching students and children, and village communities of community reserves.

A press release from Dimapur wildlife warden, Tokaho H. Kinimi stated that Satya Prakash Tripathi, PCCF & HoFF and chief wildlife warden, Nagaland, in his key note address, emphasized on the importance of wildlife. He said that students and children were the future generation and spoke about the need to play an important role as brand ambassadors for conservation of forest and wildlife. He spoke about the concept of a “Nature Learning Centre” being developed under the National Mission of Himalayan Studies (NMHS) by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India in all 12 Himalayan states.

In Nagaland, according to Tripathi, Dimapur Zoological Park, and Kohima Botanical Garden, will be developed as Nature Learning Centres. Students, children and communities of all community reserves notified by the government of Nagaland, will be trained on nature conservation by the Forest department, he added.

A set of nature conservation quotes/slogans were explained to the students, and bookmarks on nature and wildlife were distributed to the students.

Rajkumar M, DFO Zunheboto, in his short speech lauded the conservation efforts of village communities of community reserves and appealed to them to create awareness in neighbouring and surrounding villages.

Tokaho H Kinimi, wildlife warden, Dimapur appealed to all participants to protect and conserve forest and wildlife so that they may be sustained to meet the needs of future generations.
