Training on Bio-Medical Waste Management in Mon

A six-day training program on Bio-Medical Waste Management (BMWM) was organised by Nagaland health Project (NHP) from March 13 to 19 at the Conference Hall of CMO’s office, Mon district Hospital and at Tizit PHC under Mon district.

A press release by DPMU NHP Mon stated that resource persons for the training program on March 13 were NHP, PMC team leader, Ranjeeth, state consultant IEC NHP, Menguzenuo Sachu and District Facilitator, NHP Mon, Torito Yimchungru. They trained the staff of Mon district hospital and conducted a district level training for trainers. The BMWM training from March 14 to 19 was led by the deputy CMO of Mon, Dr. Limatula, BPM Pongchai and Lochi along with NHP staff. The BMWM training was aimed at imparting awareness on pollution, hazards and infections of bio-medical wastes on the environment as well as the society.
The training also focused on the Bio-Medical Waste Rules of 2016, the roles of operators and occupiers and various government agencies associated with management of bio-medical wastes, and roles and responsibilities of district monitoring committees at district levels. The trainees were trained on procedures of segregation, transportation, treatment, disposal of bio-medical wastes and functions of different colour coded waste bins in health facilities and the use of Personnel Protective Equipments (PPE) for personal safety and hygiene of managing staff. Medical officers, nurses, medical attendants and other health workers of 68 health facilities from across Mon District, including the district hospital, were trained on the importance of managing bio-medical waste.
