
As the last date for filing of nomination for the Nagaland parliamentary constituency election and by-election came to a close, two more candidates filed their nominations on Monday, taking the number of candidates in the fray to four.
Former BJP national secretary (ST Morcha) Hayithung Tungoe filed his nomination as NPP candidate. Dr M.M. Thromwa Konyak of Indian Christian Secular Party also filed his nomination during the day.
The two candidates filed their nomination at the commissioner’s office here.
Meanwhile, NPF has constituted a coordination committee within the party to explore possibilities for forging an alliance with likeminded parties. The committee is headed by Rajya Sabha member and party’s secretary general, KG Kenye.
When contacted, the opposition party informed Nagaland Post that it will make an announcement in a day or two in this regard.
By-election: A total of three candidates filed their nomination papers for the by-election to 26 Aongleden A/C in front of the returning officer Mokokchung. The candidates included Alem Jongshi (INC), O. Tinu Longkumer (NPP) and Toshipokba (NPF).
As NDPP candidate Sharingain Longkumer had filed his nomination papers on Friday, the by-election will witness a four-cornered contest. Aonglenden constituency has a total of 12,269 electors.
