Nutrition Fortnight in Mokokchung

As part of the district level celebration of “Poshan Pakhwada” (or “Nutrition Fortnight”) in Mokokchung district, the Social Welfare department organized a Folk Show at Mopungchuket village on March 20. The Nutrition Fortnight was observed from March 8 to 22 all across the country in commemoration of the first anniversary of “Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyan” or “National Nutrition Mission.”

A press release from CDPO, Kobulong Imliyanger, stated that the main features of the celebration included a demonstration of traditional rice pounding and husking by Mangkolemba Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) project; a traditional song based on locally produced healthy organic foods presented by Ongpangkong North ICDS project; and making of traditional chutney using leek and mushrooms by Changtongya ICDS project. Kobulong ICDS project gave two presentations which included folk songs based on nutritional food values and baking “Amzü,” a flatbread made of sticky rice flour, black sesame seeds and sweeteners which is a Mopungchuket specialty.

Other highlights of the celebration which was held at Yimyong Moapu, Mopungchuket, included presentation of a Poshan song by Anganwadi workers; short speeches by chairman of Mopungchuket Village Council, Aosadang, and District Welfare Officer, Mokokchung, Bendangkokba. A speech on the significance of Poshan Pakhwada was delivered by CDPO, Ogpangkong North, Talisangla Nokdir.

More than 200 Anganwadi Workers (AWW) and Anganwadi Helpers (AWH) from four ICDS along with departmental officers in the district participated along with villagers.
