A day after Peren, Phek, Dimapur and Wokha districts experienced thunderstorms and strong winds accompanied by hailstones, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) Home department, on Wednesday, reported that District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) of those districts are currently assessing the detailed damage reports.
In a press release, home commissioner R Ramakrishnan stated that the thunderstorms in parts of the districts damaged property and one life was lost by lightning strike at Ndunglwa village, Peren district.
Though the thunderstorms in the North Eastern Regions will weaken, NSDMA said it was expected to re-intensify towards the end of the week due to persistent upper trough and wind convergence over the area. NSDMA has cautioned that continuous attention should be paid to the threat of thunderstorms, strong winds, heavy rains and lightning.
The NSDMA has also advised the public to stay safe and vigilant at all times.
