A new Lotha to English language dictionary with 1.6 lakhs words was compiled and released recently.

The author, Marius Yanthan, in a press release stated that he started work on the dictionary in 2013 and it took him six years to complete the first edition.

Marius further stated that this dictionary is the first of its kind and all efforts have been made to include all possible words in general use, in the written form and the conversational Lotha dialect. “…many Lothas, especially the present generation born and brought up in towns do not know how to speak in their mother tongue properly” he stated. Noting this among other things, the author stated that the dictionary has been designed to meet needs of first time learners. “This is the first comprehensive Lotha-English dictionary out until now,” he added.

Marius Yanthan was born in Lakhuti village, Wokha. He graduated with honors in English literature from Dibrugarh Kanoi College, from Assam. He joined Nagaland Police Service through competitive examinations conducted by the Nagaland Public Service Commission and retired as an officer of the Indian Police Service.

The self published dictionary will be in stores this month, the release stated.
