
Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) held its general session at the Congress Bhavan Kohima on June 7 which was addressed by veteran Naga politician and senior Congress leader Dr. S.C. Jamir, former governor of Maharashtra, Goa and Odisha besides NPCC president K. Therie and Apostle Rev. Luoliehu Yimsung.
Addressing the session, former governor of Maharashtra, Goa and Odisha and veteran Naga Congress leader Dr. S.C. Jamir said the Congress needed strong leadership in Nagaland and throughout the country. In this regard, he attributed the successive defeats suffered by the Congress on lack of strong leadership as well as infighting among party leaders. He called on Congress rank and file to ponder over this disease that afflicted the party.
Dr. Jamir also said the recent setback suffered by the Congress sent a clear message on the party for strong leaders and stable government. He said the recent election also revealed that people in India were looking for strong leaders to lead the country. He said even the high command needs to introspect to revive and strengthen the party’s belief in unity and diversity.
Dr. Jamir also lamented that people were in no mood to listen to lectures nor do they bother about party manifestos since they were blinded by their pursuit of material gain.
He also said the Congress party has lost its grassroots support and the party has to pay serious attention on revamping the party organisation by creating a new vision for the people of Nagaland.
He urged upon the party to recommit itself to address issue of unemployment and how to solve various problems instead of running only after entertainment. Dr. Jamir exuded confidence that the party will rise up and that the current setback was only a passing storm. To rebuilt required firm conviction on the party’s ideology which should be pursued with total commitment and honesty.
He also pitched for innovation at the local level as everything that the high command says cannot be applicable.
He called on all Congress man and woman to be totally committed in reflecting the party beliefs and visions.
NPCC president K. Therie expressed gratitude to people for having given the party 48.11% of the total votes cast in the recent election. Therie also urged upon party workers not to put personal ambitions above party and the people. He said time has come for a unified effort by all party men and women to propel the party forward. Therie also said there was something wrong if people have not voted for the issues confronting them in defending Naga identity.
Therie called for greater unity among party members in the interests of the people instead of being disenchanted about who was leading the party.
Congress candidate for the recently held Lok Sabha, K.L. Chishi thank all those who supported him. Chishi said Naga people have begun to understand reality of politics and what the Congress stood for in upholding secularism. He said though Congress could not win the Lok Sabha election, yet it should not despair but hope for brighter days ahead.
Congress candidate for 26 Aonglenden by election Alemjongshi also shared his experience at the recent by election and urged all the party to work towards a better future by working together.
Earlier, speaking on the biblical perspective for motivating leaders under “Right Or Wrong Alliance”, Rev. Luoliehu Yimsung explained that an alliance was about working together for betterment. He mentioned ten(10) alliances : for strategic planning- alliance in spirit-not in faith; alliance through God’s direction; an alliance for safety and precaution; alliance to further our cause towards destiny; alliance to establish just rules and engagement; alliance to raise up children who will take up the legacy; alliance for God’s prophetic words; alliance to establish a spirit of holiness- all of which was for an honourable leader(s) covered by God’s blessings.
Moving and adoption of resolution was held at the session followed by the concluding remark by NPCC general secretary GK Zhimomi.
